Brand Psychology | Leadership

…..
Inspired by an actual convo
Btw, If “Hey, what do you do here?” is frequently asked questions within a company, that workplace culture might be a hot mess express!
On Friday evening social, I bumped into this person who’s on her way out at her job. As we chatted, I had this “aha” moment about what’s wonky in a lot of workplaces. Strangely, she can’t peace out until the final second of her notice – all because of the crazy amount of stuff she’s handling and the hunt for someone to fill those big shoes. She said something that stuck: “Isn’t it funny how the moment I put down my papers, they see my worth and view me as a valuable productive member? Before that, it was all, ‘Hey, what’s your day job here?’”
Companies, or rather their leaders, aiming to establish a reputable employer brand should pay attention to these nuances, catch these little vibes and invest time in perfecting the basics. If all a company does is brag without genuinely caring for its people, they shouldn’t expect mad love and extra hours in return. The leaders should role-model the mission and totally walk the talk – live out the mission and make sure no one feels trapped or doubts their own potential. If they don’t, they’ll end up with folks who are just coasting by – reactive and comfortable.
Think I’m off the mark? Just take a look-see around!
Whipping up a Workplace Brand ain’t a breeze! It’s more than just organizing chatty sessions and team getaways. And for sure, it’s not about landing a chance to speak on employer brand at sponsored events or collecting random awards.
